Knoxville security guide: how you live, Knox 911, leftover keypads, KUB nights
The quote starts with house vs condo vs rental vs larger lot — not the look of the brick. Then we name the desk from your ZIP and ADT monitors 24/7.
Occupancy first. Architecture is not a product.
Knoxville mixes single-family streets in Bearden and Fountain City, stacked units downtown and in Fort Sanders, larger lots in Farragut and Hardin Valley, and resales with a leftover keypad. That mix is a living fact, not the product. The product is a professionally installed, ADT-monitored home security system. On the call we ask house vs condo vs apartment, ZIP, leftover keypad yes/no, and cameras yes/no.
A Bearden or Sequoyah Hills house is doors, a rear slider, and often a garage walk-through. An Old City condo is indoor contacts the board will actually allow. A Fort Sanders rental near UT adds extra keys — promotional offers are for homeowners. A Farragut or Hardin Valley lot is a longer driveway and weaker Wi-Fi at the back fence. We will not copy one kit onto the other. Packages start at $53.99/mo*.
The kit after you name how you live
Single-family house
Bearden, Fountain City, Sequoyah Hills. Front door, rear slider, garage walk-through first. Doorbell if packages sit on the porch. Skip the twelve-camera list on a modest lot.
Condo
Old City, downtown, stacked units near Gay Street. Boards often kill hallway cameras. A panel and contacts inside the unit plus ADT 24/7 is still a complete system. Staffed desks help with boxes. They do not call ADT at 2 a.m.
Apartment / rental
Ask who can authorize the install. Indoor contacts still work. Outdoor video is often a no. Fort Sanders near UT adds extra keys — say who can disarm the panel. Promotional offers are for homeowners.
Larger-lot house
Farragut, Hardin Valley, Maryville, Oak Ridge. Decks, sliders, long driveways. Weak Wi-Fi at the back of the lot is normal — cellular backup by name. A different city desk is a permit conversation, not a reason to skip monitoring.
Resale with a leftover keypad
Hardin Valley, Farragut, West Knoxville closes. Photograph the panel before you pull it. Reactivation is often faster than a rip-out. Builder leftover keypads are not ADT. Count the slider and the garage walk-through.
Knox 911 registration is not a fee to “have” an alarm
Inside the City of Knoxville, register with Knox 911 under the False Alarm Ordinance. The annual amount is $0 if you have zero false alarms, then $10 / $20 / $30 by false-alarm history. That is not a residential user-permit dollar amount to own a system. Outside city limits, Knox 911 registration is voluntary. Farragut, Oak Ridge, Maryville, Alcoa, Clinton, Lenoir City, and Sevierville are not KPD — confirm that office from the ZIP. We do not invent their fees.
A leftover keypad on a resale is worth a photograph before you pull it. Reactivation is often faster than a rip-out. Say whether a garage apartment or basement unit has its own key — that is a second door list, not a footnote.
What to have ready before you call
- ZIP and city — Farragut is not KPD, Oak Ridge is not Knoxville city hall
- House, condo, apartment/rental, or larger-lot — occupancy, not a style name
- Whether you own the home (promotional offers are for homeowners)
- A rough door and window count, including the garage
- Cameras yes or no, plus any HOA or board camera rules
- A photo of any leftover keypad
Call (865) 500-6003. You hear the monthly price, the $99 install, the 36-month agreement, and the permit office before anyone schedules a truck.
